Recommended Supplies
Curated tools, notions (haberdashery in the UK), and supplies for sewing. Every item is something we genuinely recommend — not a paid placement.
Cutting Tools
The tools you'll reach for every time you cut fabric.
The industry standard. Comfortable grip, easy blade changes, cuts through multiple layers cleanly.
Large enough for most pattern pieces. Grid lines help with squaring up fabric.
Sharp, heavy-duty fabric scissors. Keep them dedicated to fabric only — never paper.
Faster than pins for holding pattern pieces. Won't distort fabric grain.
For trimming PDF pattern pages before taping. Much faster than scissors.
Measuring & Marking
Precision tools for fitting, marking, and measuring.
Long enough for hip measurements on larger bodies. Keep two — one in your kit, one at the machine.
The sliding marker lets you set a seam allowance or hem depth and keep it consistent.
For redrawing armholes, necklines, and crotch curves after adjustments.
Marks disappear with water or fade in 24-48 hours. Essential for marking darts, notches, and matching points.
See-through grid for measuring seam allowances, grading, and squaring up fabric edges.
Sewing Notions / Haberdashery
The small things that make a big difference in your finished garment.
Better than pins for thick fabrics, curves, and binding. Won't leave holes in leather or vinyl.
Won't melt under the iron. Fine enough for lightweight fabrics without leaving holes.
Sharps for general sewing, betweens for quilting, ballpoint for knits.
You will use this. A good one makes the inevitable un-sewing much less painful.
Pressing Equipment
Pressing is half of sewing. Good pressing tools make a visible difference.
Curved pressing surface for shaping darts, sleeve caps, and princess seams.
Press seams open without imprinting the seam allowance onto the right side.
Protects delicate fabrics from direct iron contact. Organza works well because you can see through it.
Press a crease, then immediately press the wooden clapper on it. Forces sharp, flat seams and creases.
Specialty Sewing Supplies
For bras, corsets, swimwear, and other specialized construction.
Underwires, hooks, sliders, rings, channeling, and elastic — everything to sew one bra.
Flexible steel boning for corsets. Follows curves without poking through fabric.
Non-stretch herringbone weave specifically designed for corset construction.
Chlorine-resistant, UV-protected. Holds up in pools and sun.
Pattern Printing
Everything you need to print, assemble, and use PDF sewing patterns.
Large roll for tracing pattern pieces. Translucent so you can trace directly from the original.
You go through a lot of tape assembling tiled PDFs. Buy in bulk.
Some people prefer glue to tape for tiling. Repositionable so you can adjust alignment.
